2.1. Payslip Processing & 88 Days Tracker
Important: File Privacy Protection
We DO NOT store your payslip files. When you upload a payslip (JPG/JPEG image or PDF), we extract only the necessary data (employer name, dates, hours) and immediately discard the file. Your original payslip files are never saved to our servers or databases.
For Premium users who use our 88 Days Tracker feature, we collect and process the following payslip-related information:
Data We Extract and Store:
- • Employer Information: Business name and ABN (Australian Business Number)
- • Work Period: Start date and end date of employment
- • Hours Worked: Total hours worked during the period
- • Weeks Worked: Number of weeks in the work period
- • Calculated Days: Estimated eligible days towards 88-day visa requirement
- • Upload Metadata: Upload date, validation status, and user ID
OCR Processing via Anthropic Claude:
We use Anthropic Claude (a US-based AI provider) to process payslip documents and extract the text fields below. Here's how it works:
- • Step 1: You upload a payslip as a JPG/JPEG image or a PDF file (PDFs capped at 5 pages)
- • Step 2: The file is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to Anthropic's API for one-shot extraction
- • Step 3: Claude reads the image and returns structured fields (employer name, ABN, dates, hours)
- • Step 4: Extracted data is returned to our system and saved to your account
- • Step 5: The original image is never persisted on our servers — it is held in memory only for the duration of the API call
- • Processing Time: Typically 2–4 seconds
- • Anthropic Retention: Per Anthropic's commercial terms, API inputs are not used to train their models and are retained only for abuse-monitoring purposes for up to 30 days (zero-retention available for enterprise customers)
Anthropic Data Processing:
We have reviewed Anthropic's commercial terms and chosen them based on the following protections:
- • No Training Use: Anthropic does not use API inputs or outputs to train their models (per their Commercial Terms)
- • Encryption in Transit: All API requests use TLS 1.2+
- • No File Storage: 88finder never writes the original image to disk or cloud storage — it stays in server memory only
- • Access Control: Only the payslip upload endpoint (authenticated, Premium-only) can invoke the API
- • Audit Logs: Upload events are logged on our side for security monitoring (file size, user ID, confidence score — never the file itself)
Your Rights Regarding Payslip Data:
- • View Data: You can view all extracted payslip data in your 88 Days Tracker
- • Edit Data: You can manually correct any OCR errors before validation
- • Delete Data: You can delete any payslip entry at any time
- • Export Data: You can request a full export of your payslip data
- • Validation Control: Draft payslips remain editable until you validate them
Data Accuracy & Disclaimers:
Important: The 88 Days Tracker is a tool to help you estimate your progress. OCR extraction may contain errors. You are responsible for verifying all extracted data before validation. The calculated "eligible days" are estimates only and do not constitute legal advice. Always verify your visa eligibility with the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

We use the information we collect for various purposes:

- • Anthropic: AI provider for payslip OCR processing — bound by their Commercial Terms (no training on customer data, up to 30-day abuse-monitoring retention)
All service providers are contractually obligated to process your data only as instructed and to maintain appropriate security measures. Payslip images are sent to Anthropic for one-shot extraction and are never stored on 88finder servers.
6. Advertising & Affiliate Partnerships
Google AdSense:
88finder uses Google AdSense to display advertising on parts of the site. Premium subscribers and Season Pass holders never see ads; advertising is only shown to free and anonymous visitors.
- • Cookies used by Google: Google and its advertising partners use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to 88finder and other websites on the internet.
- • What Google collects: Technical information about your device, browser, IP address (truncated), interactions with ads, and contextual signals from the page you're viewing.
- • Opt-out: You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- • How Google uses data: See Google's advertising policies for full detail on how Google partners use cookies and your data.
- • Consent (EU/UK/EEA visitors): Personalised ads are only served after you provide consent through our cookie banner. You can withdraw or change your preferences at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer.
Affiliate Partnerships:
Some pages on 88finder contain affiliate links to third-party services we believe are useful for Working Holiday Visa backpackers. If you click an affiliate link and complete a qualifying action (typically signing up or making a transaction), 88finder receives a commission at no additional cost to you. This helps fund the free parts of the site.
- • Wise (formerly TransferWise): We earn a commission when you sign up for a Wise account through a 88finder referral link and complete a qualifying first transfer. Wise is a money-transfer service we recommend for backpackers receiving AUD wages and sending funds home — we'd recommend it whether or not the affiliate programme existed.
- • Disclosure on each placement: Affiliate links are tagged with
rel="sponsored"per Google's guidelines and labelled visibly (“Sponsored” or “Affiliate”) on every card and link. - • Editorial independence: We only feature partners whose product we've used or evaluated. We do not accept payment to rank specific farms higher in search results — farm listings are ranked by our editorial reliability score, never by advertiser payment.
You can identify affiliate links by the “Sponsored” label on the card, the small “commission earned” disclosure near the link, or by hovering — affiliate URLs go through a partner tracking domain (e.g. wise.prf.hn) rather than directly to the partner's site.
7. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Breach Notification: In the event of a confirmed data breach involving your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours of discovery. Notifications will be sent to your registered email address and will include:

- • Steps we are taking to address the breach
- • Recommended actions you should take

8. Data Retention

- • Premium Users: Data retained for the duration of subscription plus 90 days after cancellation
- • Payslip Data: Extracted payslip data (employer, dates, hours) is retained until you delete it or close your account. Original payslip files (JPG or PDF) are never stored.
- • Payslip Upload Limit: The count of payslips uploaded (max 40) is permanent and does not reset upon deletion to prevent abuse
- • Legal Requirements: Data retained longer if required by law
