Strawberry Picking Jobs Australia
Light, beginner-friendly farm work. QLD season May–October, Victoria Nov–April. Earn $150–250/day picking on piece rate.
Why Strawberry Picking?
Beginner-Friendly
Strawberries are light, easy to handle, and you learn quickly. No experience needed and most farms train on day one.
Cooler Months Work
QLD strawberry season runs through winter (May–Oct) — perfect alternative to working through tropical summer heat.
Pay Rates Explained
Piece Rate: $1.20–1.80 per Punnet
- Beginners: 80–120 punnets/day = $100–200/day
- Experienced: 150–200 punnets/day = $200–280/day
- Hourly option: some farms pay $25–28/hr instead
Piece rate must still average above the hourly minimum wage. If you can't hit ~80 punnets/day in your first week, ask to move to hourly.
Strawberry Speed Tips
- • Two-handed picking: use both hands constantly to double output
- • Knee pads: save your knees on day one — sold cheap at hardware stores
- • Don't over-fill: punnets that overflow get rejected
- • Stay in your row: good rhythm beats jumping around
- • Morning starts: pickers are fastest in the cool morning hours

- • Bent-over posture all day — back pain is real
- • Knee pads recommended (cheap at Bunnings)
- • Light gloves help with delicate fruit handling
- • 4–6 week minimum stay typical
Counts Toward 88 Days
